I hope you're ready for the year, because things are picking up quick!
In two weeks we'll be having our first GC -- I hope you're registered for it! If not, just go to the website (www.mscsa.org) to do so. Even if you have registered, you might want to check out the conference info on the site anyway. On itis the itinerary, Platform Committee agenda, the previous meeting's minutes, the GC agenda, and the election info.
It's these last two items that I want to draw special attention to. First, the elections. There are a couple of vacancies in the association which will be filled at the GC, including the Platform Student At Large Alternate, Governing Council Student At Large, and Presidents' Group Vice-Chair. The first two will be filled by the GC and the last by the Presidents' Group. I would request that you share this information with your regions so that anyone interested in running will be prepared!
The GC will also be electing two board members onto the Fiscal Committee, as well as the board and at large positions on the Steering Committee. You can view the full descriptions of these committees on the MSCSA website.
I will be further asking the Board to form one ad-hoc Joint Building Committee to confer with MSUSA on discussions of building and collocating as associations. I would like to appoint the members of this committee during the board meeting in September so that the committee can meet and report back in October, so if you are interested in the exciting prospect of helping determine the future offices of our associations, I would encourage you to send me a letter of intent this week!
Finally, the Board will be asked to ratify appointments to a few other committees. There are a large number of committees within MnSCU on which students serve, and at present there are some of those committees which still do not have a student on them. If you are interested in being on a MnSCU committee or are wondering what they might be, please get in contact with Jessica Medearis or myself for more information. Finally, if you are interested in serving on the Diversity Committee, please email me a letter of intent at least three days prior to the GC.
Sounds like a lot of committees, eh? Not to worry! Besides workshops on MnSCU Policies and Running an Effective Meeting, amongst other great topics, we've got presentations on Transfer and the Workplan as set out by the Staff and Cabinet! Get ready for an action-packed first conference to start off a great year of more accessible, more affordable, higher quality, higher education!
