MSCSA is governed by a General Assembly (GA) that meets twice yearly. The General Assembly is comprised of representatives from each of the system’s 46 campuses. At a minimum, each campus is eligible to send five voting delegates; larger schools are eligible to send up to three additional voting delegates, depending on the current enrollment number of the campus. The General Assembly approves recommended legislative agendas, changes to the Working Documents and also elects association leaders.
In the interim between meetings of the General Assembly, an eleven member Governing Council (GC) is charged with conducting the business of the association. The Governing Council meets on a monthly basis and is comprised of one regional representative elected from each of the nine regions of the state, one student-at-large member and one president’s group member, who represents the opinions of the campus Student Senate Presidents.
It is the responsibility of the GC to conduct research and vote on recommendations to bring forth to the General Assembly. Regional representatives are also integral in maintaining the flow of information between campuses and the GC.
Working to complete the goals of the association on a daily basis is a four-member student MSCSA Cabinet. The Cabinet is comprised of the President, Vice President, Public Relations Coordinator and Treasurer. Each Cabinet member is elected by the General Assembly in the spring to serve a one year term that begins July 1.
