Governor Tim Pawlenty signs bonding bill with line-item vetoes of 14 MnSCU projects
Tuesday, 16 March 2010 13:27

Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the bonding bill into law yesterday, but he issued several line-item vetoes, including $91 million in state obligation from projects within the MnSCU system. In total, 14 MnSCU projects were taken out of the final bill by the Governor.

In his veto letter to the legislature, the Governor pointed out that he warned that spending a billion dollars on projects was too much in difficult economic times and that he decided the bill needed to be cut down in overall size. Also, the Governor stated that he vetoed MnSCU projects to make state support for the University of Minnesota and the MnSCU system more equal.

Attached you will find a spreadsheet that compares the bill passed by the house and senate conference committee and those projects signed by the Governor. If you have questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact the MSCSA state office at 651-297-5877.
